THE "PLAIN" BELT - $24Splaff, the company that makes this upcycled (?) belt, doesn't seem to realize what they've created. They call it their "plain" belt, which is kind of like nicknaming the biggest kid at summer camp "Tiny." Truth is, I've never owned another belt as stylish, versatile, and durable as this one. (Yes, I did just say all that about a 24-dollar belt made from discarded bicycle tire tubes!)
Of all the great things about this belt, its versatility might be the most surprising. With over-large width, bold white stitching, a strong buckle, and industrial grommets, the belt has some serious edge. But the mostly matte finish of the black rubber, and the antique-like finish of the brass-colored buckle and grommets (available in ever-neutral silver color, too), softens the overall effect enough to wear it with even a classic suit. Of course, it also goes great with the most casual attire. Plus, many of the belts retain a faded manufacturer's stamp somewhere on the rubber, which is a really nice touch. Oh, and you can easily switch out the buckle. How awesome is that? Meanwhile, the bike tube rubber is as durable as, well, a bike tube. The rubber on these belts wears better over time than the leather belts I used to wear (you know, before I fully comprehended the evils behind leather). A strong hemp inner lining provides added durability, and the stitching is heavy-duty indeed. So go on -- click that blue button over there and make one of the smartest purchases of your life. |
